The Hair 9-1-1!

You are witnessing the hair of a baby who spends time with a "certain someone" who shall remain nameless. Brody Lovers, I'm sure you are just as confused as I was. Even Brody Joseph was confused! Let me explain. This is the results of my preppy bebe's hair being braided (yes in cornrows.....or cornrolls??) and later unbraided...... This certain someone thought this was a good idea and even had a very interesting explanation. "The braids will help his hair grow." Hmmmmmm...... ok, well I was under the impression we were doing pretty good in the 'hair growth' category. But, perhaps, I was incorrect. Perhaps Brody needs the tendrils of Rapunzel so that he can 'let down his hair' and have people climb up to the balcony..... I don't know.

Worry no longer. After a vigorous shampoo and condition, the signature curlyfro is back. Never to be assaulted again.... If I can help it.

On a much more glittery note.... Did you notice something else in these pics? I know the hair is distracting, but take a look at la mouth de la bebe! You're seeing correctly! That's a tooth, with a second one soon to follow!! Congratulations little chomper!

Happy first time grandmommy's day to my amazing mom! I honestly don't know what I'd do without her! Sooooo Selfless! Happy godmommy's day, Kanaa! And to all the Brody Lovers who happen to also be stylish mothers....... Happy Mother's Day, I love you all!

Cake-Off

You're not going to believe this..... Your favorite chic mommy was challenged to a bake off!! There is a young lady by the name of **Betty Mocker who actually believes she can bake a cake better than I. I know, I know....... I was just as shocked as you are. Betty, who happens to be a Brody Lover, is under the impression her cake will look and taste better than mine. I've never been one to back down to a challenge. So, let's "throw down."

This Cake-off is scheduled to take place June 21, 2009. The judges will rate each cake on appearance as well as taste. I heard Betty signed up for special cake making classes so that she'd be extra prepared.... HA HA! She goes to these classes every Wednesday night.... instead of bible study... LOL!

So Brody Lovers (minus Betty of course), I'll keep you updated with the happenings and post pictures and results for all to see.... In the words of one of the great philosophers of our time, Jigga Man...... "I WILL NOT LOSE!"

Brody's reaction to this hilarious challenge!

Bebe Talk!

Ok. For those of you who have been given the privilege of spending quality time with mi Brody Joseph, you know he has plenty to say. However, I don't think you are aware of the extent to which the little bumble bee actually buzzes. From the moment BroJo awakes to the very moment he journeys to the wonderful land of slumber, he's talking. Oooing, Ahhing, Cooing, Yaaing, taking breaks only to eat. I mean with facial expressions and all. What does Brody have to tell the world? There's something he's trying to tell us! Some random Trader Joe's shopper told me, "There's nothing sweeter than the sound of a baby." Hmmm...... ok......

Sunday during worship service the "sweetest sound" got us politely asked to leave. And yesterday at dinner, the "sweetest sound" called the attention of the entire restaurant/diner to sing what I believe to be "Yes Jesus love me" (or maybe beyonce's Halo) in a high pitched, soprano voice.

Oh Brody...... continue your chatter! Continue your song! One day, they'll pay attention...... One day.

The Hair Frenzy

You may have noticed, BroJo is not lacking in the hair department! My little 'Sampson' has enough to go around...... As you can imagine maintaining the 'curlyfro' is no easy task. Especially when little man would rather eat his organic, pureed brussel sprouts than have someone comb his hair any day!
So, I searched for hair care products for the lad and I kept coming up dry..... literally.... DRY. I won't name the products I tried, but the problem was they would soften and sheen for a very short amount of time before completely drying out. Brody's auntie explained those products had alcohol in them....
After a stay with Grandma, Brody returned with soft shiny hair fragrant of fresh squeezed lemons.....

Carol's Daughter
Hair Milk

Dillards 4oz $12.00 8oz $18.00

This light, fast-absorbing lotion for the hair is made with essential oil of lemongrass to stimulate natural oil production. Vitamins C and E provide an antioxidant boost while a hint of lily of the valley fragrance perfumes hair beautifully. Hair Milk is ideal for defining natural curls and giving hair loads of shine and bounce. Lemongrass stimulates scalp circulation and adds luster to dull hair. Sweet almond oil is a natural nut oil that is high in fatty acids and easily absorbed by the scalp.

P.S. email me with other suggestions of successful hair care products....

Hi my bunnies,
How I miss thee! I'm so happy to find out my Brody Lovers are becoming more and more attached to the happenings in a chic mom's life! I even received a couple of "update the blog" phone calls (batting eyes in flatter). I promise to become more frequent with the updates. I'm actually working on a few very exciting life projects (three to be exact)! I can't wait to unveil!!

So, how was the Easter holiday? Have you managed to clean the dye off your finger tips yet? Brody Joseph celebrated his first Easter with a visit with Mr. Bunny, fresh baked cookies, Sunday morning service, Dinner with the family, and a fabo basket. Such a nice weekend. I, on the other hand, was really creative with my Easter egg hunt this year (wink).......

Like always, I can't wait to see your pictures and hear all about the tons of fun and excitement!

BFF's numero dos

Martha Shames Us Once Again.........

As I gathered my 99 cent food coloring for what I would call a fabulous Easter egg dyeing set, I ran across this on Martha Stewart's website (shaking my head). I guess the simple dip and dry just isn't good enough anymore?? For the ambitious, super creative mom who dares to tackle this challenge and make your Easter eggs resemble pigs ....... Good Luck!
P.S. Please email me the pics

To all my baby food makers......

Potato, summer squash, and peas

½ cup finely chopped onion
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1 small summer squash, trimmed and thinly sliced
2 small potatoes (6 ounces), peeled and chopped
½ cup vegetable or chicken stock
¼ cup frozen peas

Saute the onion in the butter for about 3 minutes or until softened. Add the squash and saute for 1 minute. Add the potatoes, pour in the stock, then cover and simmer for 12 minutes. Add the frozen peas, bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and continue to cook for 3 minutes. Puree in a blender.

Cooking time: 19 minutes ~ Makes 3 portions ~ suitable for freezing

**FOOD FACT: All the yellow-fleshed squashes are good sources of beta-carotene, but in zucchini this vitamin is present in any significant amount only in the skin, so they are best cooked and eaten with the skin on.

Spring has Sprung!

Oh tulips and daises... pastels and paisleys... long days and short nights... walks in the park and flying kites... Oh Easter and bunnies... bumble bees and honey... cleaning and vacays... ice cream and sun rays................... Spring is in the air!!

Can't help but to think of last Spring when I was whistling a different less chipper tune. So, BL's (Brody Lovers) are you bubbling over with excitement for the new season??? What better way to begin Spring '09 then with a lovely photo shoot (don't answer that).
