To Believe or Not to Believe ........ That is the Question.

So, over the past few weeks I've had several conversations about a jolly old fat guy. I must say I had no idea there were so many people who felt so passionately about Saint Nick. As a new mommy, I constantly think about my parenting style and although a lot is developed as you go along, some things you must research what you truly believe and how you will handle it.

During my many conversations I heard several "I'm not teaching my kids about Santa" comments. Some said, "I worked hard to purchase Christmas gifts. I want the credit." That's just silly! Some felt bad about "lying" to their children. The most popular naysayer said, "Christians should not teach Santa, instead, Jesus." First let me say, I know Christmas is the day we set aside to celebrate the birth of Jesus. I will definitely teach that to little Brody. It was quite interesting to me how these Christian parents incorporate every other man imposed aspect of Christmas.

The belief in the magic of Santa Claus is such a joyous childhood memory. Buying into Santa Claus does not mean you can not also focus on the spiritual aspects of Christmas. Saint Nicholas was really a devout Christian who was known for his love for children. He used his great wealth to help poor families, children, and orphans. He became the epitome of Christian love and affection, honored by Christians around the world and considered to be the great patron Saint of children and the cheerful giver of gifts. His intention was only to help people and spread the love of the Lord, and this was his mission for most of his adult life. It was never to put himself on an equal or higher pedestal than Jesus.

At the end of the day, it's solely up to you as a parent to decide which way to go..... to believe or not to believe.

Brody Joseph Taylor, Summa Cum Laude!!!

What a great weekend! Saturday, my baby sister and Brody's auntie, Candra, graduated (with honors I might add) from North Carolina Central University with a Biology degree. How proud we were of her great accomplishment!! The commencement ceremony ..... excellent! The speaker .... phenomenal. Brody's behavior ..... exceptional. The family fellowship at California Pizza Kitchen .... priceless. Congratulations, Cai. On to medical school!

So all this college and graduation talk has me thinking about the future of my own little butterfly, Brody. I recently came to the realization that he won't be a baby forever (tear) and he has to live a life of his own (streaming tears) and he'll one day leave my home (pouring waterfall of tears). As a mom (I'm sure every mom would agree), I want to provide all the tools necessary for Bro Joe to be the best he can be. With that thought in mind, we opened the little scholar a college fund! Now, although I'm quite sure Brody will obtain a full scholarship (both academic and athletic), you never can be too prepared when it comes to education. I learned there are many types of accounts from very Conservative to risky business. I encourage all my Brody Lovers who've yet to start an account for their little ones to do so!! Knowledge is the door to success and education is the key.

Notice Brody's left hand tossing up the peace sign.

Friday's Fabulous Finds

Who is this wonderful person that developed the Pregnant woman's 'do not consume' list???? I wondered throughout my entire pregnancy ....... possibly a man or someone without taste buds. And it's one of the very first things my mid wife discussed with me. I can hear her now peeking over the brim of her spectacles. No sushi (gasp), hot dogs, certain fish, deli meat (now come on), no caffeine, watch your nut intake, no alcohol (by this time my gasp has become hyperventilating). I mean, for someone who enjoys Starbucks (affectionately called 'the bucks - thanks Shan of http://shanandthecity.blogspot.com) EVERY morning and a Panera sandwich lunch every afternoon, news like this requires an additional session with the therapist.

I'm happy to report I made it through without breaking the rules ........ well sorta...... does Bojangles sweet tea have caffeine??? And it was well worth it to have a completely healthy, bouncing baby chap.

Now, the 'do not consume' list has been burned and the ashes spread over my mid wife's BMW (ok just kidding). You'd think I would have immediately ran out and purchased my fav sushi roll and hot dog with a side of vodka while popping espresso beans. However, I wanted to take my time and really enjoy the forbidden fruit.

Ode to the Bucks who brilliantly came up with the perfect holiday drink.... Espresso Truffle. I tried this holiday bliss and I must say it's my new fav. Espresso Truffle combines Starbucks espresso with premium European-style cocoa blend and steamed milk, and topped it with whipped cream and a touch of chocolate powder. This sophisticated beverage delivers rich chocolate flavor with a velvety mouth feel balanced with a smooth coffee flavor. Ummmmm.

Please, Brody Lovers, don't put this off. Try it today!! Go now. Bring your boss one back. For every purchase, Starbucks donates five cents to the Global Fund which helps save lives in Africa!

TGIF, love, and kisses

Oh, by the way ..... keep your eyes peeled for "Everyone Loves Chloe"........................ coming very soon (squeal)

Swoozie's Presents, Paper, Printing, and Pizazz!

Oh - Emm - Gee!

So, yesterday the B man and I visited one of my all time favorite stores, Swoozie's. Swoozie's specializes in unique, fashion-forward gifts and items for all of life's special occasions as well as an exceptional social paper selection. I can just stay in there for hours! There are currently 22 locations, including Greensboro, Charlotte, and Raleigh. Stationary and gifts and keepsakes, oh my! Swoozie's encourages me to take it back to the basics and actually send someone a note instead of an email. Visit the website at http://www.swoozies.com/ for great gift ideas for everyone on your list.

Happy Hump Day!

Holy Bambino

So, Sunday was Brody Joe's first time attending Church! Yay! Must say I was a little nervous about how he would behave, but he was a little sleeping angel. ~strong sigh of pride~

Anyway, as I searched high and low for the perfect first time church attendance outfit I realized how absolutely difficult it is to shop for a baby boy versus girl. I ran across several beautiful dresses and fancy outfits for damsels and NOTHING for lads. I'm starting to notice this is a growing problem. It must be solved! I mean, what about the moms who don't want their sons to always have a huge picture of a lion on their outfits??? Or the moms who do not agree that choo choo trains mean formal. After settling for a casual but oh so cute Ralph Lauren one piece outfit, I decided to make it my mission to find the designers who actually have baby boys. Mission Accomplished!

Janie and Jack http://www.janieandjack.com/ has a great selection of dress clothes for little boys. I mean shirts and ties and miniature slacks ...... oh boy!

Brody pre Church - a little upset, no doubt

"Classy women do brunch" -Gregg (real housewives)

Hello Brody Lovers,

Hope you all had an amazing weekend! Brody and I certainly did. Saturday we had the opportunity to indulge in the most wonderful brunch at the Print Works Bistro of Greensboro, NC. Oh Wow! Print Works Bistro is the first restaurant to attain a LEED Platinum certification. The building uses 41% less energy than a conventional hotel/restaurant by using ultra efficient materials and the latest construction technology. The bistro bar is made of salvaged, solid walnut trees that came down through sickness storm. 87% of construction waste was recycled. They also hold cooking classes for the, umh humm, cooking challenged!

Aren't you just in love with the posh decor? I enjoyed their Quiche Florentine with butternut squash and pear soup du jour............. heavenly. Brody, on the other hand insulted the fabo chef and only drank milk..... go figure. You have to check this place out the next time you're in the 336 area.

love and kisses and Happy Monday

Fashionista Mamacita!

Far gone are the days of mom jeans and vomit adorned Sweat shirts! Chichi mommies are trading their crocks for stilettos and loving every minute of it. Yes, I realize you're sleep deprived and your new boss (baby) is very demanding and continuously declines your vacation request without reason. Not to mention your new respect for sticking to a budget. But ladies there is hope. Say it with me......... Yes We Can! (wink)

This past summer Kanaa and I visited a local maternity shop in hopes of finding something slimming (ha ha ha). As we searched the racks, a woman approached us whom I'm sure is very decorous on normal occasions. Anyway, this woman (let's just call her 'Sad in Charlotte') pushed her child filled stroller while she shopped.

"Make sure you hold on to you maternity clothes," said Sad in Charlotte as she nodded her head towards her stroller. "I'm still wearing the maternity clothes from his pregnancy."
Kanaa and I glanced inside the stroller and found what had to be a 14 month old child grinning back up at us.

Say it with me, sexy mommies who maintain the welfare of their children and still manage to look incredible ............ YES WE CAN!

BFFs

I'll never forget that Sunday I told mi amigo (that's Spanish for my friend), Kanaa I was expecting a little one. We were on the way to a bridal expo and I just kind of blurted it out in the car. She was the first person I told. We arrived and parked beside a car which sported an infant car seat in the back (my destiny). Kanaa pointed and laughed aloud. Little did she know the joke was on the both of us. The very next day Miss Kanaa discovered she too would need to invest in a car seat!

God has such a great sense of humor! It has been a blessing to share this experience with such a great friend. We shared many laughs, tears, complain sessions, drama, more laughs, and waffles together. Now, the fun is just beginning. Our boys are already best of friends.

Congrats Brody and Aiden on having the coolest, most fabulous, most avant-garde, SEXIEST mommies ever!

(LOL)

Brody Joseph Taylor is one month old!!!

I know ............... it seems like only yesterday!! Anyway, I honestly never met anyone so close to perfect. And funny!!! He has a personality already. This month Brody learned to turn his head, follow objects with his eyes, smile, and attempt to crawl (ok, maybe a bit of a stretch). His favorite snack is milk and favorite hobby is sleeping. Check him out!
